Cerebral Palsy
Exercise
Cerebral
palsy is a medical condition that would refer to the muscle
disorders of the body which greatly affects the motor skills
and functions of the person affected. In most cases it is often
the children who are most affected with this disorder although
cerebral palsy in adults can be acquired through any head
injuries. Cerebral palsy exercise is a must
for children with this chronic disorder because it would help
them strengthen their muscles and tissues so that they can have
better motor functions and skills. Before engaging the child in
any types of exercise it would be most important to seek
professional help so that the right exercises can be
started. If you do not consult a medical professional for
the right kind of exercise for your child with cerebral palsy,
you might just risk worsening the condition of the child
instead of making it better. It would always be best to consult
a physical therapist so that the right type of exercise can be
given.
Cerebral
Palsy Exercise
Most of the
cerebral palsy exercise aims to help the child
live a normal life. Part of the treatment for this disorder is
strengthening exercises, resistance, aqua therapy, positioning
and other fun but helpful exercises. The type of exercise
should be depending on the physical limitations of the child
affected.
Strengthening exercises are needed even if
the muscle tones are increased because the muscles are often
weak which would hinder and impair the ability to stand up and
to walk. A lot of programs that aims to help children with
cerebral palsy would have this as part of their exercise
programs because aside from strengthening the weak muscles of
the child it would help them regain their motor skills.
Cardiovascular exercise is also considered as vital part in
therapy exercises because this will help the child have stamina
when doing recreational activities.

Aquatic
exercise is very beneficial since it would give the child
freedom to move in water unlike the certain limitations in
land. Depending on whether the child has increased or decreased
muscle tone, hot or cold water may be recommended in order to
maximize the effect of the aquatic exercise. Another vital
exercise program when it comes to cerebral palsy
exercise is the stretching exercise. When a child has
the spastic cerebral palsy condition, this would mean that most
of the times the muscles in the body are in the shortened and
tight state which would really hinder motor functions.
Stretching the muscle regularly could rebuild the muscles to
its normal state so that performing motors skills would not be
so difficult and hard to do.
The proper
exercise should be a part of your child’s daily routine so that
independence and normalcy can be achieved. This disorder can be
very frustrating and heart breaking to the parents but it is
important to be persistent in doing all the possible treatments
for your child so that your child would at least have a chance
to live a normal life despite the fact this chronic disorder is
for life.
