Effects Of Cerebral
Palsy
Effects of cerebral palsy is
not only limited to the child but to the whole family as well.
Having a child in your family affected with cerebral palsy can
cause many heartbreaking pains and frustrations in the family
but it would be important to realize that despite this medical
condition, your child can still live a normal life as long as
the proper treatment is given. The treatment wouldn’t give your
child a miracle cure but it would help your child cope with the
effects of cerebral
palsy.
Effects Of
Cerebral Palsy
The effects
of this medical condition can hamper the child’s developmental
phase; can cause physical disabilities and even handicaps.
Cerebral palsy can affect the child’s motor skills like
walking, writing, use of the hands and legs. It could also
affect the child’s speech, vision and hearing depending on the
part of the brain that was damage.
Despite the
physical effects of this chronic medical condition it is not a
life threatening disease and health programs with physical
therapies would help the children live normal lives. One effect
of this medical condition to the family and the child as well
would be the feeling of discouragement. Feeling discouraged is
understandable but you should know that there are plenty of
children who were able to cope well with this kind of medical
disorder and are now living successful independent lives as
adults. This disease would only affect the motor functions; it
would not have any mental effects or it would not do any damage
to one’s mental faculties, so a child with this condition could
still have a good education.

Physical
effects of cerebral palsy can be combatted
with targeted physical exercises under the guidance of a
physical therapist. These exercises are aimed at regaining
control of the body’s normal functions. These exercises are
stretching exercise, resistance exercise, cardiovascular
exercise, strengthening exercise and aquatic exercise. Having
these exercises part of your child’s daily routine could help a
lot in terms of regaining the ability to walk, stand up alone
and in doing task that would need the use of arms and hands.
Braces, walking aids and in some cases surgeries could also be
of big help in the quality of life that your child would be
living. Since the muscles would be weak, strengthening
exercises would be needed so that the muscles would not
deteriorate or lose its function. Once the muscle has regained
its strength then walking and other types of motor skills would
be much easier to accomplish. Another physical effect of this
condition is that it would make the muscles tightened and
cramped due to spasticity, now unless these muscles would be
stretch to its original or normal state then the muscles would
not be able to function well.
Coping with
the effects of cerebral palsy can be hard for
the child and the parent but with right health program under
the supervision of doctors and physical therapist, your child
would slowly be able to overcome the physical effects of this
disorder.
